Brentford consider Forest Green boss Cooper

HITC Sport understands Forest Green boss under consideration for Brentford job.

Forest Green boss Mark Cooper is in the frame for the vacant manager's job at Brentford, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Brentford are searching for a new manager following Dean Smith's departure to Championship rivals Aston Villa to succeed Steve Bruce.

Thomas Frank has been placed in interim charge following the departure of Smith with a number of names linked with the vacancy at Griffin Park, including the likes of Roberto Di Matteo and Nathan June and Forest Green boss Cooper is believed to be among the contenders.

Cooper has worked miracles at Forest Green since taking over the club in May 2016 and the job he has done has brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

Forest Green are currently in the League Two play-off spots despite having a shoe-string budget compared to many of their rivals.

The 49-year-old lead the side to promotion to League Two in his first full season in charge by winning the National League play-off final and he guided them to survival in League Two against all the odds in their first season in the Football League.

Cooper boasts a wealth of managerial experience having had spells at Swindon Town, Peterborough United, Notts County, Darlington and Kettering and he is now on the radar of Brentford.
